DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2014
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

HIGH TEMPERATURE CLOSE TO RECORD HIGH MAXIMUM YESTERDAY
COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE LATE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON
FEW VERY LIGHT SHOWERS WITH FRONT
PERIOD OF LIGHT RAIN IN FRONT’S WAKE
TEMPERATURES MUCH COOLER AND DRIER TODAY

The high temperature of 73F yesterday fell one degree short
of the record of 74F for the date in 1989.  Our Hingham cooperative
station, on the other hand, had a record high of 75 degrees exceeding
the record of 73 in 1989.
A cold front, which was accompanied by very dark threatening
clouds yesterday, produced nothing more than a few light showers
and nothing here at the summit. Winds shifted from SSW to NW, but
peak gusts only reached around 25 mph. During last evening we received
0.10 inch as a total of three hours worth of light rain.

Today’s temperatures are generally reaching only the 50’s
after an early morning low 41F, which was 3 degrees above
the normal for this date. After dew points rose through the 50’s
to near 60 degrees preceding the cold front today’s air mass is
much drier with dew points holding mostly in the upper 30’s.
