NEAR RECORD WARM TEMPERATURES UNDER MAINLY SUNNY SKIES TODAY…

The stretch of unseasonably warm weather continues today. As a
matter of fact, both the low and high temperatures today are
running around 20F (+/-) above normal for today’s date! It has
the feel of early to mid September instead of late October!
The high so far today of 79F is only 1 degree shy of tying the
record for the date. The record high for today is 80F set in 1963.

As mentioned, the temperature has reached the upper 70s here on
the summit with a dew point in the upper 40s to low 50s. Even
though it’s quite warm, it is at least quite comfortable out there
despite the lack of a breeze this afternoon.

We had a bit of a breeze early this morning, but the trend has
been for decreasing wind as the day has progressed. Wind speeds
have been on the light side since late this morning. The average
speed for the day so far is around 8mph. The peak gust so far is
around 20mph occurring just before 3:30am this morning.

Visibility has been somewhat limited due to haziness, with the
view of around 40 miles being the theme today.

The maximum temperature so far today is 79F, which is 22 degrees
above the normal high of 57F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 59F, which is 19 degrees above the normal low of 40F.

As we continue to remain above normal in the minimum temperature
category, we are actively watching for when we will have our first
low temperature below 40F. 2023 is going to end up ranking first
for the latest temperature below 40. The next possible chance for
us to achieve this won’t be until perhaps the middle of next week,
at which point we’ll be entering into November. Stay tuned!

Here are the current rankings as compiled by our Chief Scientist,
Mike Iacono.
