MORE CLOUDS THAN SUN AND A BIT COOLER TODAY….

There has been varying amounts of cloud cover today as a very slow
moving cold front pushes through the area. A few very light rain
showers actually managed to get squeezed out of the clouds early
this morning, but only amounted to a trace in the rain gauge. As
such, the dry stretch continues with the monthly rainfall now just
over 3.50″ below normal for the month to date. This morning’s
Drought Monitor report indicates that the northern 2/3rds of eastern
Massachusetts is now under moderate drought. The southern 1/3rd
which includes the Cape and Islands still have no drought, at least
for now.

Temperatures did make it briefly to 70F late this morning, but has
since started to fall back as the cold air advection finally gets
going. The dew point, which was holding steady in the mid 50s
through the morning hours, has finally started to drop off by the
time of the 1pm observation, with values dropping to the low 50s.
It has continued to drop since then with upper 40s being realized
as of this writing.

The wind has been fairly steady after switching to the north during
the morning hours. The average speed for the day thus far is around
11mph. It has been gusty at times, but nothing overly strong as the
peak gust has “only” been 24mph so far, which occurred at 11:10am.

Visibility has been improving as the day progresses, especially this
afternoon as the air mass dries out. The view early this morning
was only around 30 miles, but has improved to 60 miles by early this
afternoon.

The maximum temperature so far today is 70F, which is 12 degrees
above the normal high of 58F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 56F, which is 15 degrees above the normal low of 41F.
