BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2019
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

LIGHT MORNING RAINFALL AND OVERCAST CONDITIONS,
YET SURPRISINGLY GOOD VISIBILITY TO THE NORTHWEST….

We observed a visibility of around 80 miles to the northwest,
despite only 20 miles of visibility to the north, east, and
south due to fog. This was most likely due to the abundant
moisture offshore being pushed back by the dry and cold air
to the northwest. Rainfall overnight amounted to 0.26 inches,
and another 0.05 inches fell between 7 A.M. and 10 A.M.
Wind has been strong and northerly, with frequent gusts above
20 mph. The highest gust so far today is around 40 mph.

The strong cold air advection, cloudy skies and rainfall have kept
temperatures well below seasonal averages. The high so far today is
50F, which is 12 degrees below the normal high of 62F. The low this
morning was 47F, which is 2 degrees above the daily normal minimum
of 45F.
