BREEZY AND COOLER UNDER MAINLY SUNNY SKIES, BUT STILL ABOVE NORMAL….
After yesterday’s record warmth, today is about 10-15 degrees
cooler. Despite this, it’s still above normal for this time of
year, and quite frankly extremely nice for November standards.
Readings have reached the upper 60s early this afternoon.
There have been periods of cloudiness this morning, but for the
most part, sunshine has been the theme today. A dry cold front
moved through during the mid morning hours with a rather sharp
decrease in dew point and marked increase in wind speeds.
The average wind speed for the day so far is around 14mph, but
it’s been closer to 17-20mph for the last couple of hours following
the frontal passage and onset of the “cold” air advection. Gusts
have been frequently exceeding 25mph since 10am with a peak
gust so far of 37mph which occurred at 12:34pm.
Visibility today has improved thanks to the lowering dew points,
ranging from around 40 miles early this morning to nearly 70 miles
by early this afternoon.
The other story is of course the continued dry conditions leading
to worsening drought. The official update from the Drought Monitor
is showing expansion of severe drought conditions across the area.
We haven’t recorded any precipitation so far in November, and have
gone 8 days (including today) with no precipitation, not even a
trace. The monthly departure is already around approaching 1 inch
below normal, and the annual departure has now surpassed an inch
below normal after having a maximum surplus of nearly 10 inches
back in the spring!
The maximum temperature so far today is 69F, which is 16 degrees
above the normal high of 53F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 57F, which is 21 degrees above the normal low of 36F.
