FINALLY GETTING SOME MUCH NEEDED RAINFALL; RAW AND CHILLY WITH GUSTY
EASTERLY WINDS….
Light drizzle/rain began late last evening and continued intermittently
through the overnight and well into today. Steadier rain has finally
reached the Observatory after the 1pm observation. 0.08″ of water was
measured in the gauge at 7am, which an additional 0.06″ falling through
1pm. While this isn’t a lot so far, the duration will be super helpful
in allowing the moisture to soak into the ground. Now the steadier rain
has arrived, we’ll likely see the amounts rise at a more quick pace
into this evening. This is exceptionally great news for firefighters
as this should put an end to the various brush fires across the region,
at least for now.
Temperatures have been fairly isothermal today with a max/min range
of 1 degree to this point, 44F/43F respectively. With the drizzle/rain
and gusty east wind, it is very raw out there today. Definitely a
perfect day for a hot drink or a bowl of soup or chili!
Winds have been ramping up since this morning. The east to east-northeast
flow has averaged around 12mph for the day so far, but has been
averaging closer to 20mph over the past 3 hours or so. Gusts have been
frequently reaching 30mph with a peak gust so far of 38mph, which
occurred twice, at 11:14am and 12:17pm.
Visibility has of course been limited today due to the precipitation
and fog. At times it has reached as high as 3 miles, but has generally
been 1.5 miles or less for most of the day.
The maximum temperature for today is 44 degrees, which is 4 degrees
below the normal high of 48F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 43F degrees, which is 11 degrees above the normal low of 32F.
