FIRST FROST AND FREEZE OF THE SEASON THIS MORNING AT BLUE HILL…

We recorded our first temperatures below freezing overnight.
The temperature slipped below 32F last evening between 10-11pm,
and bottomed out at 28F (27.7F) at around 6am this morning.
A heavy frost was observed on the ground and other surfaces
here on the summit, despite some wind blowing. The first freeze
at the end of the day on November 1st was 11 days later than the
average date of October 21st.

Sunshine has been the theme today, allowing the temperature to
recover to the low to mid 40s early this afternoon. The dew
point however is holding in the low to mid 20s, making for a
chilly feel to the air for sure.

The wind was a bit brisk early this morning, but has since
eased as high pressure crests over the region. The average
speed so far for the day is around 9mph. The peak gust thus
far is 23mph, which occurred just after midnight.

Visibility has been excellent all day, holding at around 70
miles in this crisp air mass.

The maximum temperature so far today is 44F, which is 11 degrees
below the normal high of 55F. The minimum temperature since
midnight is 28F, which is 10 degrees below the normal low of 38F.
