HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THIS MORNING; LIGHTER SHOWERS
AND GUSTY WINDS INTO THIS AFTERNOON….

Rain showers began around 2:30am this morning and have
continued through the early afternoon hours. The heaviest of
the rain, which also included some thunderstorms, moved
through between 6-10am this morning. 0.60″ of rain was
measured at 7am with an additional 0.78″ falling within the
3 hours between 7am and 10am. While the intensity of the
showers let up significantly after 10am, very light rain
showers continue to fall this afternoon.

Through 1pm, 1.39″ of rain has fallen for today’s calendar
day, this has already broken the record precipitation for the
date. The previous record was 1.28″ set in 1948. We’ll see
what the final tally for today is early tomorrow morning.

The warmest temperature of the day was back at midnight with
58F being recorded at that time. Readings gradually fell
through most of the morning bottoming out at 50F around 9am,
then finally recovering a bit around 10am. It has been mostly
holding steady since. The day time readings have held in the
low to mid 50s so far. This is of course a good 15-20 degrees
below expected readings for this time of day in late May.

Winds were quite light overnight and early this morning, but
ramped up following a thunderstorm that moved through around
7am. Winds have been out of the north to north-northeast
since that time as well. The average speed for the day thus
far is around 11mph. Frequent gusts of 20-30mph have been
occurring. The peak gust for the day so far is 33mph, which
occurred at 9:14am this morning.

Visibility has been limited of course by the rain showers and
fog. We were in the clouds early this morning, at which time
we could only see around 1/8th of a mile. The view did improve
to around 30 miles for a time late this morning, but has
slipped again to around 12 miles or so early this afternoon.

The maximum temperature so far today is 58F degrees, which is
12 degrees below the normal high of 70F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 50F degrees, which is 2 degrees below the
normal low of 52F.
