A GOOD DOSE OF RAIN AND STRONG WINDS OVERNIGHT; OVERCAST WITH
DENSE FOG AND LIGHTER WIND FOR THE BALANCE OF THE DAY SO FAR….
Periods of moderate rainfall moved through overnight accompanied
by strong winds for a few hours as a strong low level jet moved
over the region. Rainfall totaled 0.89″ from the event which
began during the evening hours yesterday. A period of very strong
winds also moved through peaking with a gust to 69mph between
1-2am this morning.
The rain came to an end early this morning with only a little bit
of drizzle that fell between 7-9am this morning. Otherwise dense
fog has been the theme all day.
Temperatures topped out in the mid 50s during the wee hours of the
morning, dropping to 49F briefly between 7-8am. This has been the
low for the day so far. This would be a new record high minimum
if it could hold until midnight tonight, but that’s unlikely to
be the case. For reference, the record is 48F set in 1979.
Readings recovered back into the lower 50s by mid morning, where
it remains early this afternoon.
As mentioned, winds were strong during the wee hours of the morning
with the first 5 hours of the day averaging over 30mph. Winds have
dropped off drastically since then, even going light early this
afternoon. The average speed for the day so far is around 19mph,
but the past couple of hours have only averaged around 7mph! The
peak gust for the day occurred at 1:47am with a value of 69mph.
Visibility has been quite limited today by the dense fog. The view
has generally been a 1/4 of a mile or less, but did managed to reach
upto 3 miles briefly between 11am-noon when the fog attempted to lift.
The maximum temperature for today is 55F degrees, which is 14 degrees
above the normal high of 41F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 49 degrees, which is 25 degrees above the normal low of 24F.
