COLD AND SUNNY START TO THE DAY, BECOMING MOSTLY CLOUDY BY AFTERNOON….

We had a brilliant albeit cold start to the day with clear skies
and plenty of bright sunshine. However, as the diurnal heating
took place during the morning hours, stratocumulus clouds began
to develop and rapidly increase in coverage. The sky now features
more clouds than sun as we push through the early afternoon hours.

Temperatures started on the cold side, with readings dropping to
the mid 20s here on the summit. They quickly rebounded however once
the sun came up and did its work. Values have reached the mid 40s
by early this afternoon. Dew point values however are once again
holding in the 20s, thus adding a decided chill to the air, especially
with the brisk wind.

Winds were fairly steady around 10mph early this morning, but have
been increasing a bit as the atmosphere began mixing by mid morning.
The average speed for the day so far is around 11mph, mainly out of
the west-northwest. The peak gust so far is 28mph, which occurred
at 11:15am this morning.

Visibility has been fairly excellent all day, starting the day
around 60 miles, and then improving to around 80 miles by early
this afternoon.

The maximum temperature for today is 46F degrees, which is 2 degrees
below the normal high of 48F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 27F degrees, which is 3 degrees below the normal low of 30F.
