BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

A MUCH NEEDED SOAKING VISITS THE SUMMIT….

Clouds quickly overspread the region during the overnight hours.
Rain was soon introduced around 5:30a and it came down hard. It
was a short duration event, but the observatory scored 0.65″
between 5:30a and 9:30a. Interestingly, this total is
the largest daily rain event since April 19th when 0.96″ soaked
the hill.

Thanks to today’s event and yesterday’s line of storms, we have not
worsened the drought over the past 7 days, according to the
US Drought Monitor.

Following the AM rain, winds have been busy out of the SSW peaking at
44 MPH at 8:53 AM with a daily average holding at 14 MPH. Clouds
have been stubborn to erode. In fact, a downpour moved over the hill
just after the 1pm observation delivering a small deposit in the gauge.
Visibility is averaging just 15 miles as the passing warm front has
left some pretty muggy dew points (upper 60s) in its wake. Thankfully,
this will be short lived as drier air will filter in later this evening.

The high so far today is 80F, which is 7 degrees above the
normal maximum of 73F. The low since midnight is 61F, which
5 degrees above the normal minimum of 56F.
