SUMMER HEAT ARRIVES TODAY ALONG WITH HUMID CONDITIONS AND HAZY
SUNSHINE….

An upper level ridge is cresting over the region today bringing
with it a solid taste of summer. We are observing hazy, hot, and
humid conditions today, more akin to mid July. Plenty of sunshine
has been the theme as well with only some high thin cirrus clouds
passing through the area. With the convective temperature being
exceeded, cumulus clouds have also been building early this
afternoon, but so far haven’t been enough to block the sun at all.
The wildfire smoke that plagued our sky yesterday has for the most
part moved out over the ocean, giving us more of a blue sky today
despite the overall haziness.

Temperatures have warmed into the low 90s early this afternoon.
This marks the first 90F degree temperature of the season so far.
Dew point values have made it to the mid 60s, making for a rather
humid feeling out there today. Thanks to the combination of the
temperature and dew point, we’re seeing heat indices that have
reached as high as the mid 90s at times. Use caution if outdoors
this afternoon, especially since this is our first taste of summer
heat, thus we’re not acclimated to it.

To add misery to the feel of the air, the wind has become very light
by late this morning and early this afternoon, even going calm for
a time. The lack of air movement is simply not fun on a day like
today. The average wind speed for the day so far is around 9mph,
most of which occurred before 9am. The peak gust so far today is
18mph, which occurred around 12:45am this morning.

Visibility has been quite limited today due to haziness. The view
has decreased a bit from 25 miles early this morning to only 20
miles by early this afternoon.

The maximum temperature for today is 92F degrees, which is 20 degrees
above the normal high of 72F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 61F degrees, which is 7 degrees above the normal low of 54F.
