BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA
DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
THURSDAY, JUNE 2, 2016
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
LOW CLOUDS AND NORTHEASTERLY WINDS KEEP TEMPS COOL…
MAY 2016 FINISHES WARMER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL…
Fog enveloped Great Blue Hill early this morning offering
a visibility of 1 mile at the 7:00AM EST observation. It was
slow to burn off as the sun rose. Visibility increased to 20
miles by 10:00AM, but skies were still overcast with low stratus.
Blue sky could be seen by the 1:00PM observation as the stratus
layer turned into scattered cumulus and scattered cirrus clouds.
Temperatures remained cooler than average during the afternoon.
By the 1:00PM observation, the maximum temp. was only 68F, 3F
below normal.
After running cooler than normal for most of the month, the
warm temperatures of the last week of May raised the mean
temperature enough for it to finish warmer than normal.
Despite a wet and cloudy first week of May, the rest of the
month was relatively dry except for the nearly inch of rain
that fell on the 30th. The total precipitation of 3.13 inches
was about an inch drier than the 30-year normal for May.
The month also brought the first 90-degree day of the year
on the 28th and the second thunderstorm day of the year on
the 24th.
