RISE AND REPEAT- ANOTHER DAY OF CLOUDS AND INCOMING AFTERNOON
STORMS…
Two lines of storms cruised their way through the area within
the past 24 hours. The first batch yesterday evening delivered
frequent cloud to ground lightning (even taking out our Davis #1
anemometer!) and a peak gust of 63 MPH at 6:27 PM! This set
a new daily wind record for the 7th, beating the old speed
of 55 MPH in 1989.
The second batch rolled in during the wee hours this morning
dumping another round of rain, wind, and lightning. Total
accumulated rainfall amounted to 1.11 inches. Monthly sum is
now a whopping 5.75 inches…one of the wettest beginnings
to July on record! Current radar looks active to our distant
southwest, so we anticipate our rain gauge (yet again) to collect
more precip later today as Elsa meanders northeastward.
The heat and humidity have taken a break today after 2-consecutive
days near 90F. Temperatures have hung in the mid-60s thanks to
a wind shift off the water. Dew points have responded as well,
slipping into the upper-50s.
Visibility continues to be poor. We’ve only been able to see
20-30 miles.
The high so far today is 67F, 14 degrees below the daily average
of 81F. The low so far today is 59F, 4 degrees below the daily
average of 63F.
