SOME RAIN SHOWERS TO THE WEST AND NORTH, BUT NONE AT THE
SUMMIT….
We’re on a nine-day dry streak as we head into late July.
Today was uneventful, but some showers did miss us during
the 1 P.M. observation!
Visibility has been limited today, averaging 30 miles due to
a persistent haze! Back to the status quo, as yesterday was
a different story.
The yearly rain deficit has now reached 9.11″ below normal!
Most of the area, including the Greater Boston Area, points
north and northwest out to the Worcester area are
under a severe drought.
With only 0.73″ of rain for the month of July so far, we decided
to take a look at the driest Julys on record here at Blue Hill.
Here is the list. If the month ended today, this year would
rank 4th on the list.
BHO Lowest July Precipitation, inches (1885-2021):
1. 0.13 in 1953
2. 0.33 in 1957
3. 0.72 in 1968
4. 0.85 in 1917
5. 0.87 in 1937
6. 0.92 in 1965
7. 1.08 in 1939
8. 1.11 in 1983
9. 1.13 in 1970
10. 1.14 in 1946
Average temperatures for the month are really creeping up the
rankings list despite the seemingly pleasant start to the month.
Through yesterday, the 24-hour adjusted mean temperature is
75.0F. This means if the month ended today, we would be in
second place on the rankings list.
BHO Warmest July 24-Hour Adjusted Mean Temperature, deg F (1885-2021):
1. 75.1 in 2010
2. 74.9 in 1952
3. 74.5 in 2019
4. 74.1 in 1994
74.1 in 2013
5. 74.0 in 2011
74.0 in 2016
6. 73.8 in 1999
7. 73.6 in 2018
73.6 in 2020
The stats above were compiled by our Chief Scientist Mike Iacono.
Drought section written by Assistant Chief Observer,
the one and only Matthew Douglas!!!!
The high so far today is 86F, which is 4 degrees above the
normal maximum of 82F. The low since midnight is 67F, which
