HAZY, HOT, AND HUMID WITH GUSTY CONDITIONS TODAY AT
GREAT BLUE HILL…
This morning started off very gusty with fog and overcast skies.
As the day progressed, the fog burned off, and the temperatures
as well as the dew points increased steadily and rather rapidly.
Although we have had steep increases in those areas, the barometric
pressure has continued to drop. As of the 1pm EST observation,
the pressure has dropped over 4 millibars since 7am EST! That is
a significant amount and means that we have some instability
coming our way this evening.
The dew point reached up to 76F this afternoon which is very
uncomfortable for what we are used to in this region. With the
high dew points and seasonally warm temperatures, we have recorded
a heat index in the mid to upper 90’s. The heat advisory will be
here for a couple more days so make sure to limit strenuous outside
activity and stay hydrated.
The wind has been very intense today with an average speed of
about 16 mph. We have experienced some very gusty conditions this
afternoon with a recorded peak gust so far at 45 mph! Our record
peak gust for the day was in 1984 at 47 mph so maybe we will see
that surpassed by the end of the day.
From the earlier mentioned fog and high dew points, we have had
very hazy conditions on the hill today with limited visibility.
The visibility for most of the day has been 10-20 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today is 86F, this is 4 degrees
above the normal high of 82F. The minimum temperature today is
68F, which is 4 degrees above the normal low of 64F.
