RECORD RAINFALL THIS MORNING, SLOWLY TAPING OFF EARLY THIS
AFTERNOON….
Very light rain showers began last evening just after 10pm, but
the main show started around 2:30am this morning with a
thunderstorm opening the heavens. Torrential rain continued for
the next few hours, finally shedding some intensity just after
8am. 3.23″ of rain fell between 2:30am and 7am, with over 1″
falling for each of the hours of 5-6am and 6-7am! An additional
0.60″ has fallen between 7am and 1pm, giving us a daily total
so far of 3.83″! This obliterates the record rainfall for today’s
date of 1.95″, which was set back in 2015. We’ll have a record
report with the final daily total tomorrow morning.
Showers have finally tapered off early this afternoon, at least
for now. However we remain in the clouds. As such temperatures
are being held down quite a bit today.
The temperature has held in the mid 60s all day to this point.
This is 15-20 degrees below the normal daytime readings for this
time of year, and is a wonderful reprieve from the heat we
experienced earlier in the week.
The wind was quite light for the first few hours of the day,
even going calm for the entire hour 1-2am this morning. However
it kicked into a new gear after the thunderstorm rolled through
early this morning. The wind has stayed fairly active since,
mainly out of the east-northeast to northeast. The average
speed for the day so far is around 8mph. The peak gust for the
day so far is 24mph, which occurred just before 5am.
Visibility has been limited all day since we’ve mostly been in
the clouds. It did reach as much as 1 mile for a time early this
morning, however it’s generally been 1/2 or less for the most
part.
The maximum temperature so far today is 66F degrees, which is
16 degrees below the normal high of 82F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 63F degrees, which is 1 degree below the normal
low of 64F.
