BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2014
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

THE SKY BECOMES COMPLETELY CLOUDLESS BY EARLY AFTERNOON
LESS COLD BY 10 DEGREES THAN 24 HOURS AGO AT 7 A.M.
JANUARY AVERAGE RUNNING 8 DEGREES COLDER THAN NORMAL
TRACES OF OLD SNOW REMAIN IN PATCHES AROUND SUMMIT

Clouds seen offshore this morning along with a few middle and
high clouds also seen along the eastern and southern horizon
had completely disappeared by noon today so the afternoon sky
appears perfectly clear and “SKC” is used in the observation.

The moderating trend in temperatures has begun, although temperatures
will likely remain sub-freezing today, with our maximum nearing 30
degrees this afternoon.  If today remains below freezing, 7 out of
the past 9 days will have had maximum temperatures below freezing.

Traces of the snow which fell earlier this month still remain on
the ground today.
