HEAVY RAIN FALLS OVERNIGHT, FOG, SHOWERS AND ABOVE
NORMAL WARMTH CONTINUE THROUGH THIS MORNING
Rain began lightly and in starts and fits during the morning
and early afternoon yesterday. Rain began to fall heavily in the
evening, coming to a total of 0.80 inches of rain before midnight.
Rain showers began this morning just prior to the 7:00 AM EST
observation with fog thickening and reducing visibility. By today’s
1:00 PM EST observation another 0.04 inches of rain had fallen with
winds shifting to the W to NW after the passing of a cold front.
The stalled out cold front just to our east has kept showers just
offshore this afternoon with reduced visibility of 35 miles to the
E and 70 miles to the W. Temperatures have likely reached the maximum
for the day already at 55F this morning.
The month of January finished significantly warmer than normal,
at 4.0 degrees F above normal. The average minimum temperature of
22.3F was more than 5 degrees above normal as well.
January was drier than normal as well, with precipitation 0.58 inches
less than normal, and 2.8 inches less than normal for snow.
