BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2025
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST)
SUNRISE: 0633E
SUNSET:  1723E

CONTINUED COLD, BUT WITH MUCH LESS WIND DESPITE A STORM SYSTEM
PASSING TO OUR SOUTHEAST….

We had a brief period of sunshine early this morning before low
level clouds overtook the sky from the east. Despite the surface
the wind (what little there is) being out of the north and north-
northwest, the wind a couple thousand feet up is out of the east
and east-northeast, as ocean effect clouds and even some very
light intermittent snow has been occurring since the mid morning
hours.

Temperatures started the day even colder than yesterday with a low
of 11F, however the mercury has recovered to the mid 20s by early
this afternoon. This is still more than 10F degrees below normal for
the date! The dew point has been on the rise as well thanks to
increasing moisture from the ocean effect. Readings have risen from
the mid single digits to the mid teens.

Winds are much lighter today than they have been all week. The
average speed for the day so far is only around 9mph, mainly out of
the north and north-northwest. The peak gust so far is 17mph, which
occurred around 2:55am.

Visibility was excellent early this morning with a view of around
80 miles, but it has decreased thereafter to around 50-60 miles by
early this afternoon, with much lower values at times to the
northeast and east due to the very light snow.

The maximum temperature for today is 26F degrees, which is 12 degrees
below the normal high of 38F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 11F degrees, which is 9 degrees below the normal low of 20F.
