A FEW MOOD SNOWFLAKES THIS MORNING, OTHERWISE A MAINLY CLOUDY
AND BRISK CHRISTMAS DAY HERE ON BLUE HILL….

Clouds have dominated the sky most of today with some clearing
just starting to take place by the 1pm observation. There has
been a lot of virga observed this morning as well. A few flakes
did make it to the surface for a time during the mid morning
hours, giving us yet another trace. Today will be the 12th day
this month with at least a trace of frozen precipitation, of
those, only 3 have featured measurable amounts, albeit small
amounts. Snowfall is running nearly 6″ below normal for the
month to date.

Temperatures are running below normal, at least through early
this afternoon. Readings have only reached the mid 30s to this
point. Dew point values were rising a bit this morning from the
low 20s to the mid 20s, but have leveled off since.

The wind continues to be a factor today. A southwesterly flow
early this morning has shifted more to the west by early this
afternoon. The average speed for the day so far is around 11mph.
It’s been gusty at times, generally reaching 25-30mph. The peak
gust so far is 30mph, occurring just before 9:15am this morning.

Visibility has been somewhat limited due to haziness. We started
the day with a view of only around 25-30 miles, but it has
improved to around 40-50 miles after the front passed through.

The maximum temperature so far today is 37F degrees, which is
1 degree below the normal high of 38F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 23F degrees, which is 1 degree above the
normal low of 22F.
