STORM TOTAL FOR AUGUST 13 JUST OVER AN INCH
MOST RAIN WAS LIGHT TO BRIEFLY MODERATE WITH
ONE EXCEPTION–A DOWNPOUR LEFT 0.33 IN ONE HOUR
MONTH AND YEAR REMAIN ON DRY SIDE OF NORMAL
While several inches and more of rain fell to the southwest
through northwest of Blue Hill yesterday we finally managed
to get 1.09 inches.
The downpour between noon and 1 P.M. EDT left 0.33 inch in
that one hour. The rest of the hours from pre-dawn to early
last evening averaged well under one tenth of an inch showing
that there was mostly all light rain with just a few brief
instances of moderate rain. Cloudburst rainfall set a New York
State record yesterday at Islip, Long Island when 9 inches
fell in just 2 hours, and 13 inches in 6 hours ending at 8 A.M.
EDT yesterday morning. The 13-inch daily total was a new daily
record for the state of New York.
Despite our rain here were remain drier than normal for August
and for the year as well.
