DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2018
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
SOUTHERLY WIND BRINGS SLIGHTLY WARMER AIR TO
GREAT BLUE HILL TODAY…
A VERY WARM AUGUST FINISHES AS SECOND WARMEST ON RECORD…
Temperatures rose today to above normal due to a
shift in wind direction from the north to south.
So far today we reach a maximum high temperature
of 83F, which is 7 degrees above our daily normal
of 76F. Our visibility rose today from 20 miles
at our 7:00 observation to 40 miles at our 1:00
observation as humidity decreased from 73% to
45%. Pressure dropped, causing an increase in
cloud cover as the day progressed. On this day
in 1953, we experienced the highest temperature
ever observed in the month of September at Blue
Hill Observatory, with a max that day of 99F.
With a 24-hour adjusted mean temperature of 73.4 degrees F,
August was the second warmest on record. The average maximum
tied for the eighth warmest, and the average maximum temperature
of 66.3 deg F was the warmest on record by more than a degree F.
