FROM NEAR RECORD WARMTH YESTERDAY TO NOVEMBER-LIKE CHILL TODAY…

The high temperature yesterday topped out at 80F, falling 1
degree shy of tying the record for the date from 1919.
Yesterday’s high was one of the latest temperatures of 80F
or higher ever observed at Blue Hill. Here is the list of
latest 80F+ temperatures.

BHO Latest Maximum Temperature Above 79 deg F (1885-2023):

1) 81 on 2 November 1950
2) 81 on 28 October 1919
80 on 28 October 2023
4) 80 on 27 October 1947
83 on 27 October 1963
6) 80 on 26 October 1963
7) 81 on 25 October 1963

A dry cold front pushed through the region last evening and
came with a blast of wind. A gust to 31mph accompanied the
front. Since that point, the temperature began to steadily
decline reaching the early morning minimum of 49F before the
7am observation.

Rain moved into the area during the mid morning hours, and
the temperature has dropped some more since then with readings
holding in the mid 40s early this afternoon. Certainly feels
raw out there with the rain falling. 0.19″ of rain has been
measured since 7am this morning.

The wind has been on the light side today, generally out of
a north to east-northeasterly direction. The average speed so
far today has only been around 7mph. A peak gust of around
23mph occurred just after 1am.

Visibility started off excellent early this morning with 70
miles being seen. However as rain and fog moved into the area,
the view decreased significantly to generally 5-15 miles.

The maximum temperature so far today is 57F, which occurred at
midnight. This is 1 degree above the normal high of 56F. The
minimum temperature since midnight is 46F, which is 7 degrees
above the normal low of 39F.

As we have passed the number 1 spot for the latest minimum
temperature below 40F five days ago, this makes 2023 first in
the rankings for the latest temperature below 40. Here are the
current rankings as compiled by our Chief Scientist,
Mike Iacono.

BHO Latest First Minimum Temperature Below 40 deg F (1885-2023):

1) 24 October 2013 (36F)
24 October 2021 (37F)
3) 22 October 1955 (34F)
4) 21 October 2005 (39F)
5) 20 October 1960 (38F)
6) 19 October 2014 (39F)
