SMOKE ALOFT AND OVERCAST CONDITIONS KEEP TEMPERATURES BELOW
NORMAL TODAY, COOL AND DRY
The front that passed through yesterday netted us 0.95 inches of
rain for the day, which was needed since we were almost an inch
below normal for the month. Currently the departure is -0.17 inches
for the month and -1.03 inches for the year.
Today has been hazy and cool, mostly due to the wildfire smoke that
has once again settled over the region. While Blue Hill hasn’t been
under any type of air quality alert, the smoke is most definitely
present, and has impacted our visibility dramatically.
The mostly overcast conditions today have kept the sunshine from
occurring, though at times the sun has been dimly visible. Added with
a gentle sea breeze, the temperatures have remained below normal today.
Dew points have varied in the upper 50s to lower 60s, making for a
somewhat stickiness feel to the air.
We have had a decent east-north easterly flow from the ocean for much
of the day today. The average speed so far is 10mph. The peak gust
for the day so far is 21mph which occurred around 9:30am.
As mentioned, the visibility has been overall poor. This morning we
had the ‘best’ visibility, at 10 miles. Smoke and persistent hazy
conditions have prevented us from even seeing the Boston city skyline
except for the early morning hours.
The maximum temperature for today is 67F degrees, which is 6 degrees
below the normal high of 73F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 57F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the normal low of 55F.
