NEAR RECORD CHILL WITH PERIODS OF VERY LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS….

What a change in weather from a few days ago. From record heat
to near record chill in about 36 hours! The high temperature
yesterday of 53F was 2 degrees shy of tying the record low
maximum temperature of 51F set in 1915 and 1945! Also, the low
temperature for today of 43F was 2 degrees shy from tying the
record low of 41F degrees set in 1915 and 1926. So far for today,
the high has been 52F, which is also 2 degrees shy of tying the
record low maximum for today of 50F set in 1891 and 2012!

Along With the chilly air, overcast skies have dominated with
periods of light rain showers and drizzle. So it’s quite damp
out there today.

The wind has been generally out a north to north-northeasterly
direction, and has increased a bit as we progressed into the
early afternoon hours. A low pressure system over the Gulf of
Maine is backing into the area a bit, thus tightening the
pressure gradient enough to squeeze out some gusts around 25mph.
The average speed for the day has been around 11mph so far.

Visibility has been limited due to areas of showers and thin
fog. Views of upwards to 50 miles were seen this morning, but
has decreased overall to around 30 miles early this afternoon.

The high temperature so far today is 52F, this is 20 degrees
below the normal maximum of 72F. The low since midnight is 43F,
this is 11 degrees below the normal minimum of 54F.

The month of May ended up being exceptionally sunny here at
Blue Hill. As a matter of fact, it was the sunniest May ever
recorded. It was also the 4th sunniest of any month here at
Blue Hill since 1885. Here is the updated ranking as compiled
by our Chief Scientist, Mike Iacono.
