ANOTHER NICE SUMMER DAY WITH HIGH VISIBILITY

It was another cool start this morning at the summit, with our morning low
of 54F being five degrees below average.  Despite this, it has been another
excellent summer day, albeit still a bit on the cool side of average, with
the temperature rising to a high of 74F so far today with comfortable dry
air in place again.  There were numerous high level clouds this morning, but
they have mostly moved away, and been replaced with cumulus and altocumulus
clouds that have developed during the day.  The visibility was a spectacular
85 miles early this morning, close to the highest value that we can observe
here of 90 miles.  It had dropped a little this afternoon but was still at
75 miles.  The wind began the day very light from the NE, turned NW in the
late morning as it picked up a little, but then turned back to the NE by
early afternoon.  This sea breeze is helping to keep our temperature cooler
than normal today, as is the considerable amount of cloud cover this
afternoon.  The blueberry plants on the summit began showing some color last
weekend, and the first ripe blueberry was picked on June 19th, which was
just two days earlier than the mean date.
