INCREASING CLOUDS THIS AFTERNOON, BUT WARM AND DRY AIR CONTINUES….

This morning started with plenty of brilliant sunshine and very
comfortable air. Temperatures rapidly rose from the upper 60s
early this morning to the mid 80s by noon time. While temperatures
are on the warm side, humidity levels are quite delightful for
this time of year with the dew point holding generally in the mid
to upper 50s.

Clouds have been on the increase this afternoon, but they are
mainly of the high thin cirrus variety, as such plenty of filtered
sunshine remains. All in all, not a bad day at all.

The wind today has been on the light side only averaging around
8mph for the day so far. A gust to 23mph has occurred earlier
this afternoon.

Visibility has been superb for this time of year holding around
80 miles all day!

The high so far today is 87F, which is 5 degrees above the
normal maximum of 82F. The low since midnight is 64F, which
is equal to the normal minimum of 64F.

The yearly rain deficit has now reached 9.39″ below normal!
Most of the area is under a severe drought.

With only 0.80″ of rain for the month of July so far, we decided
to take a look at the driest Julys on record here at Blue Hill.
Here is the list. If the month ended today, this year would
rank 4th on the list.

BHO Lowest July Precipitation, inches (1885-2021):

1. 0.13 in 1953
2. 0.33 in 1957
3. 0.72 in 1968
4. 0.85 in 1917
5. 0.87 in 1937
6. 0.92 in 1965
7. 1.08 in 1939
8. 1.11 in 1983
9. 1.13 in 1970
10. 1.14 in 1946

Average temperatures for the month have really creeped up the
rankings list despite the seemingly pleasant start to the month.
Through yesterday, the 24-hour adjusted mean temperature is
75.3F. This means the month is likely to go down as the warmest
July on record. Final stats will be ready in the next few days.

BHO Warmest July 24-Hour Adjusted Mean Temperature, deg F (1885-2021):

1. 75.1 in 2010
2. 74.9 in 1952
3. 74.5 in 2019
4. 74.1 in 1994
74.1 in 2013
6. 74.0 in 2011
74.0 in 2016
8. 73.8 in 1999
9. 73.6 in 2018
73.6 in 2020

The stats above were compiled by our Chief Scientist Mike Iacono.
