HEAT WAVE IS PEAKING TODAY, THE 6TH DAY, WITH RECORD HEAT…

Today marks the 6th day of the current ongoing heat wave and
we’ve reached the peak of the heat. The high today has been
99F degrees which sets a new record for the date, beating the
previous record of 96F set back in 1987.

The 99F degrees today is the highest temperature recorded
here at Blue Hill since July 22nd, 2011 when it also reached
99F. Here is a list of highest maximum temperatures since
the year 2000.

BHO Highest Maximum Temperatures, deg F (2000-2022):

1) 99, August 14, 2002
99, July 6, 2010
99, July 22, 2011
99, July 24, 2022
5) 98, August 13, 2002
98, June 10, 2008
7) 97, September 8, 2015

96, July 22, 2016
96, July 25, 2016
96, July 20, 2022

Also with today being the 6th day of the current heat wave, and
tomorrow potentially being the 7th, here is a list of longest
heat waves recorded here at Blue Hill since 1885.

BHO Longest Heat Waves (1885-2022):

1) 9 days, Aug 11-19, 2002
2) 8 days, Aug 10-17, 1944
3) 7 days, Jul 22-28, 2016
4) 6 days, Aug 28 – Sep 2, 1953
6 days, Jul 24-29, 1963
6 days, Jul 16-21, 1977
6 days, Jul 6-11, 1988
6 days, Jul 16-21, 1991
6 days, Jul 15-20, 2013
6 days, Jul 19-24, 2022

The stats above were compiled by our Chief Scientist Mike Iacono.

Although it’s very hot out there today, the wind has been quite
gusty this afternoon reaching close to 40mph. Despite the breeze
feeling like a furnace blast, it’s still better to have it than
still air with these temperatures.

The yearly rain deficit has now reached 8.66″ below normal!
Most of the area from the Greater Boston Areas and points north
northwest are under a severe drought. Remainder of the state
continues under moderate drought except for western Berkshire
county where it’s abnormally dry.

The high so far today is 99F, which is 16 degrees above the
normal maximum of 82F. The low since midnight is 73F, which
is 9 degrees above the normal minimum of 64F.
