DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
SUNDAY, JANUARY 5, 2020
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

OVERNIGHT RAIN ENDED AS SNOW THIS MORNING, MUCH COLDER
TODAY, BUT STILL RUNNING ABOVE NORMAL…

Rain turned to snow in the wee hours of the morning this
morning and accumulated 0.5″. Snow had ended by the 7 A.M.
observation. Total liquid precipitation for the 24 hours
ending at 7 A.M. was 0.30″.

In the wake of the snow, mostly cloudy skies has been the
theme with a very gusty northwest wind due to a rising
barometer and strong cold air advection. The peak gust so
far today is 43 MPH.

Visibility has improved from 50 miles early this morning to
an excellent 80 miles early this afternoon.

Temperatures haven’t risen much from the early morning values,
again thanks to the strong cold air advection. The high so far
today is 36F (set back at midnight), this is 2 degrees above
the daily normal maximum of 34F. The low since midnight is 31F,
which is 13 degrees above the normal low of 18F.
