CLEAR, SUNNY AND COLD FOLLOWING YESTERDAY’S BLIZZARD….

Quite the day experienced yesterday! Thanks to our Chief Observer
Ben Turner, and Assistant Chief Observer Matt Douglas, Blue Hill
continued its uninterrupted streak of data collection! In fact, both
completed 30 hour shifts in tandem…hats off to them! Their duties
were substantially challenged by high winds resulting in the need to
survey snow measurements across the entire summit. They confirmed
blizzard conditions here from late morning to mid-afternoon. They logged
for us a final storm total of 27.6″. When melted, the liquid equivalent
was 1.84″ (15:1 snow ratio).

Today is a complete 180! Winds are slowly easing out of the northwest.
Brilliant sunshine returned and has been dominating since sunrise. Skies
are mostly clear from nearly horizon to horizon (save a few decorative
cirrus). To add, visibility is an astounding 85 miles – just shy of
perfection!

The high so far today is 19F, this is 16 degrees below the normal
high of 35F. The low since midnight is 4F, which is 13 degrees
below the normal minimum of 17F.
