DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
SUNDAY, JANUARY 19, 2014
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

HEAVY WET SNOW TOTALING 4.2 INCHES COVERS GREAT BLUE HILL FOLLOWING
YESTERDAY’S DAY TIME STORM.

Yesterday a storm intensified off the Atlantic coast bringing rain followed
by heavy wet snow which fell at the rate of more than 1 inch per hour early
yesterday afternoon. Including the light rain that fell prior to the snow, total
liquid equivalent for the 0700 yesterday to 0700E period today was 0.81 inches of
water. With about 0.6 inches of this falling as snow, this indicates a water-heavy
snow-to-liquid ratio of approximately 7.5:1.

Low clouds, fog and a few snow showers added an additional coating to an already
white ground by mid morning today. By early afternoon sun and winds were both on the
increase ahead of a much cooler week to come. Yesterday’s daily temperature departure marks
the first time in a week that the departure has been less than +10 degrees (9 degrees
for Saturday with an average temperature of 34 degrees). Saturday’s normal daily average
temperature is 25 degrees.
