ANOTHER WEEKEND WINTER STORM BRINGS A WINTRY MIX OF SNOW AND ICE….
As mentioned yesterday, our active stretch of weather continues with
yet another messy wintry mixed event occurring overnight through today.
Snow began between 4-5pm yesterday evening and continued until around
2:30am this morning before beginning to mix with sleet. By 7am this
morning 4.9″ of snow and sleet had accumulated here on the summit. The
sleet began mixing with freezing rain around 4am. This icy mix continued
for a few hours before changing to all freezing rain by 8:30am. Ice
accumulated to 1/8th of an inch (0.13″) diameter through the 10am
observation on all non-treated surfaces. The temperature finally got
above the freezing mark after 10am, mercifully changing everything over
to plain rain.
So far the total liqiud for the event is 1.32″ through the 1pm
observation. This is the biggest event (in terms of amount of
precipitation) of the month so far.
As mentioned above, temperatures have finally made it above freezing
with readings barely reaching the mid 30s by early this afternoon.
Winds have been gusty through the morning into early this afternoon
out of mainly an easterly direction. The average speed for the day so
far is around 16mph. Gusts haven’t been all that strong as of yet,
with the peak gust so far of 33mph which occurred just after 12:20pm.
Visibility has of course been limited by precipitation and fog. The
view has been generally around 2-3 miles, however it has at times
dropped as low as 1/4 of a mile.
The maximum temperature for today is 34F degrees, which is 3 degrees
below the normal high of 37F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 22F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the normal low of 20F.
