Weekly Significant Weather Outlook
Strong Gusty Winds Late Tonight Through Tuesday Evening
Strong Wind Gusts Late Tonight Through Tuesday Evening
Very strong surface and upper low pressure over Ontario will drive a strong low-level jet across southern New England late tonight through Tuesday evening as colder air rushes in. Effective vertical mixing up to around 5000 feet will draw down to the surface strong northwest wind gusts of 45 to 55 mph throughout southern New England with possibly gusts to around 60 mph across exposed areas of the Berkshires and the Worcester Hills. Scattered tree and power line damage is possible late tonight into Tuesday evening. The peak of the wind gusts will likely be early Tuesday afternoon. After a spike in temperatures into the 40s across many areas today, colder temperatures will accompany the strong wind gusts.
Rest of the Week
Due to a strong and quasi-stationary upper trough centered just east of Hudson Bay, northwest flow will bring below normal temperatures to southern New England for the rest of this week (including the coming weekend).
No major storms are anticipated the rest of this week. An upper-level trough swinging around the quasi-stationary trough east of Hudson Bay may produce a period of light snow or snow showers late Wednesday night into New Years Day morning. Moisture will be limited with this upper trough and an associated reinforcing cold front. Thus, only scattered light accumulations of under an inch are anticipated across southern New England late Wednesday night/Thursday morning.
At this time given a low probability of any major storms this week, another blog message is not likely until the scheduled weekly significant weather outlook on Monday, January 5, 2026.
Happy New Year!
