BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2024
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST)
SUNRISE: 0524E
SUNSET:  1755E

MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES, WILDFIRE SMOKE HANGS AROUND…

High pressure remains in control again today. Aside from some thin cirrus
clouds that have moved in from the north, and some fair weather cumulus popping
up to our west, skies have been mostly clear with plenty of sunshine. The smoke
layer that has been present over the region remains in place, reducing our
visibility. Some of the smoke seems to have made it to the surface, as I could
faintly smell it while out for the 1pm observation.

The temperature briefly dropped into the low 60s just after midnight.
Following sunrise, we quickly warmed into the low 80s, which is again above
normal for mid-September. The dew point has risen a touch, but remains in
the low 60s.

Winds have been on the lighter side, averaging around 9mph, mostly out
of the northeast. The peak gust so far is around 18mph, occurring just after
1pm.

Visibility has been modest, with the view declining from 30 miles to 20 miles.
The smoke layer combined with higher dew points is making it a bit hazy out there.

The maximum temperature so far today is 81F, which is 7 degrees
above the normal high of 74F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 63F, which is 7 degrees above the normal low of 56F.
