DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2013
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
MOSTLY CLOUDY AND COOL TODAY
It has been a mostly cloudy day on the summit today, with numerous
stratocumulus clouds limiting sunshine, especially early this afternoon.
The air has certainly had a fall-like feel to it today, with a cool morning
low of 54F and temperatures only rising to 65F so far today thanks to the
limited sunshine and a cool WNW breeze, which has averaged about 10mph so far
today. The air has also been much drier today, with dew points only running
in the low-mid 50s, after four days of dew point values mostly in the 60s and
low 70s. Visibility has been good today, averaging about 70 miles. The
barometric pressure has been rising today after it fell below 29.00 inches
at station level yesterday for the first time since July 24.
Showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday brought a total of 0.64 inches
of rain, with 0.47 inches falling on Thursday and an additional 0.17 inches
yesterday. The monthly total is now right at 3.50 inches, close to two
inches above normal.
