COOLER TEMPERATURES AND FOGGY CONDITIONS PRESENT AS RAIN MOVES
THROUGH BLUE HILL TODAY…
Today started off overcast and breezy as a cold front moved in
from the west and the remnants of post tropical storm Philippe
churned in the Atlantic southeast of us. This instability has
dropped the barometric pressure over 5 MB since 7am! That is a
similar pressure drop to what we experience during severe
thunderstorms.
The high temperatures have steadily dropped into near normal ranges,
yet our low temperature remains over 10 degrees warmer than normal.
The dew point also has stayed in the low 60’s for the past couple
of days which has kept us from experiencing those crisp fall
mornings that are typical for this time of the year.
The wind was quite active this morning and remained quite steady
throughout the afternoon hours. Our average speed so far has been
around 11mph, with winds mostly from the ESE and SE. Our peak gust
so far occurred shortly before noon at a speed of about 24mph.
Visibility has been impacted throughout the day by the fog and low
hanging stratus clouds. We saw about 20 miles in the middle of the
observation shift, but once the rain moved in our visibility went
down to 5 miles.
The maximum temperature so far today has been 68F, which is 4
degrees above the normal high of 64F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 62F, which is 15 degrees above the normal low
of 47F.
