FIRST MEASURABLE SNOWFALL OF THE SEASON LAST NIGHT, COLD AND BLUSTERY TODAY….

Rain showers yesterday turned to a period of light snow last evening
and continued until after midnight. Once precipitation changed to
snow, the temperature dropped quickly below freezing here on the
summit, allowing the snow to accumulate. As a matter of fact, coming
up the hill early this morning, there was no accumulation on the
ground until reaching about the halfway point. From that point onward
to the summit, there was a drastic change in the scenery as everything
was snow covered.

1.0″ of snow was measured on the summit, making it our first measurable
snow of the early “winter” season.

Clouds dominated the sky early this morning, but they have since
decreased to only a few stratocumulus dotting the sky early this
afternoon.

Despite the abundance of sunshine this afternoon, temperatures are stuck
in the mid 30s. Very gusty winds are making it feel much colder however.
Wind chills have been mainly stuck in the low to mid 20s here on the
summit, brrr!

Speaking of the gusty winds, speeds have been averaging a little over
20mph, with frequent gusts between 35-40mph. The peak gust for the day
so far is 47mph which occurred just before 4am this morning.

Visibility has been excellent all day ranging from 60 miles early this
morning up to 80 miles by early this afternoon.

The high so far today is 37F, 9 degrees below the normal max of 46F.
The low since midnight is 29F, 1 degree below the normal low of 30F.
