DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2018
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME

SEVERAL HOURS OF HEAVY RAIN OVERNIGHT…PRECIPITATION LINGERS
AS LIGHT DRIZZLE THIS MORNING…STORM TOTAL 1.78 INCHES…

Rain that began last evening just before 7 PM EST became heavy
a few hours later with over an inch of rain falling in the
three hours from 9 PM to midnight last night. A total of 1.73
inches was measured in the standard gauge this morning, with the
heavy rain becoming moderate after midnight and then becoming
light rain after 2 AM. Light drizzle lingered into mid-morning
and the precipitation ended shortly after a brief rain shower
passed around 10 AM. An additional 0.05 inches was measured for
the six hours ending at 1 PM EST, making the storm total rainfall
1.78 inches. This brings the monthly total up to 4.86 inches
just through the first ten days of the month, continuing a very
wet Fall season.  The Observatory has recorded nearly 20 inches
of rain since September 1st. The temperature remained steady
in the middle 40’s much of the night into mid-morning, and the
wind peaked at 43 mph from the E just before midnight. After a
period of lighter winds this morning, the wind picked up again
as the storm began to depart just after 10 AM. The peak gust since
then has been 40 mph W ar 2:10 PM. The visibility climbed quickly
from 1/16 mile early this morning to 75 miles by late morning
after the rain ended and drier air and much lower dew points
began moving into the area. The dew point has dropped from 45F
early today to the low 20’s this afternoon.
