MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES TODAY WITH THE RETURN OF WILDFIRE SMOKE….

Yesterday’s afternoon storms only yielded a trace of rain
on the hill, but the passing of the cold front allowed smoke
from Canadian wildfires to come through. Because of that, we
have been under an air quality alert and a smoke layer has
been visible all day, though it was much worse this morning.
Besides the smoke layer, we have had mostly clear skies with
the exception of some scattered cirrus clouds.

Temperatures have been more seasonable today, thanks to
yesterday’s cold front. The dew points have also been much
lower since yesterday, making for a much tolerable day. Dew points
have been in the mid 50s today, so we have not had to deal with
heat index values or the oppressive heat.

The wind has remained steady, though a bit lighter today than
the previous couple of days. Flow has typically been out of the
east-northeast, though it was out of the north-northwest last
night, probably helping to funnel the wildfire smoke into the
area. The average speed for the day so far is around 9mph. The
peak gust of 25mph occurred around 7:45am.

The smoke layer has impacted visibility severely today, though
we have seen some marginal improvement as the day progressed.
Visibility has fluctuated between 8 miles in the morning
to about 30 miles by afternoon.

The maximum temperature so far today is 79F degrees, which is
3 degrees below the normal high of 82F. The minimum temperature
since midnight is 66F degrees, which is 2 degrees above the
normal low of 64F.
