OVERCAST WITH A COOL BREEZE FOLLOWING A DAY OF
RECORD RAINFALL….
Today we measured an additional 2.89 inches of rainfall for the
24 hours ending at 7 AM this morning, partly due to Tropical Storm
Elsa yesterday. This amount brings the monthly total to 8.88 inches,
7.90 inches above the current average through the 9th. Drought fears
are a distant memory, as the yearly total of 32.26 inches exceeds the
normal by almost 4 and a half inches. The peak wind gust during Elsa
was 40 mph from the WNW at 2:54 PM EST after the center of the storm
passed to the asst.
Today we observed overcast skies with a limited visibility of 30 miles.
While cool, humidity remains a factor with dew points in the upper 50’s.
A steady northeast wind persists with an average speed of 10 mph and a
gust of 21 mph.
Here’s some more context for the tropical rain yesterday including
the list of most rainfall on July 9th and the list of wettest calendar
days in July. Only one other day on these lists appears to have been
from a tropical cyclone.
