BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA
SATURDAY, JANUARY 21, 2023
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME (EST)
SUNRISE: 0707E
SUNSET: 1644E
MORE SNOW OVERNIGHT, BUT STILL NO SUNSHINE…
A burst of snow yesterday afternoon into the evening hours
amounted to just under 2″ here on the summit making for a nice
frosted coat of snow on all the trees.
Snowfall totaled 1.8″ bringing the monthly total to 7.0″ and the
seasonal total to 9.7″. While most locations in eastern Southern
New England are snow starved, Blue Hill has managed to make out
better thanks to our elevation. With that said, the snow deficit
for the season here is still 16.9″ below normal to date.
The other “issue” is the lack of sunshine. Today will mark the
3rd consecutive day of not measuring any sunshine. In a month
that’s already seen very low sunshine minutes, this just adds to
the depression of the season.
Temperatures today have been on the cool side with the overcast
skies. Readings have only reached the lower 30s. For what it’s
worth, most of our “warmth” this month has been at night. Normal
lows for this time of year are in the upper teens, of course
we have not been anywhere near that cold here at all the entire
month.
The high so far today is 33F, occurring at midnight which is 1
degree below the normal maximum of 34F. The low since midnight is
27F, which is 10 degrees above the normal minimum of 17F.
