COLDEST TEMPERATURES SINCE FEBRUARY THIS MORNING
LIGHT SNOW BEGINS AHEAD OF STORM
A reinforcing cold shot of air moved into the region yesterday evening.
The temperature fell to 14F by midnight this morning, and bottomed out
at 9F around 5:30 AM. This 9F temperature is the coldest since February
10th of this year, which also had a low of 9F. The temperature has
struggled to increase today, only rising to 16F by the 1:00 PM observation.
Very dry air has been present as well, with dew point readings as low as -5F
at times this morning. The sky has been mostly overcast with altostratus
today. The Sun has only been dimly visible at times, which has helped keep
the temperature down. Winds have been light today, which has helped prevent
the air from feeling colder than it already is. The wind direction has been
mainly N-NNW.
The weather was mainly dry despite the clouds for much of the morning, but
snow flurries began just before noon and have turned into a steady light
snow early this afternoon. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of
the region through early tomorrow afternoon, with several inches of snow
expected tonight from an approaching storm system, with some mixed
precipitation also possible.
