TROPICAL AIRMASS REMAINS IN PLACE, HOT AND HUMID….

Today is another day of heat and humidity, as temperatures have
risen to the upper 80s and dew points remain in the low 70s.
The heat index has reached 92F by the 1pm observation, and those that
need to be outside should be cautious to avoid overheating.

As far as the skies go, we have had quite the mix of cloud coverage.
This morning began mostly cloudy with clouds of all heights present,
including stratocumulus, altocumulus, and cirrus. By late morning, the
coverage decreased, with developing cumulus joined by cirrostratus
and cirrus above. Cumulonimbus was visible well off in the distance to
the northeast by the 1pm observation, but the cumulus locally show little
vertical development to this point.

Winds have picked up relative to yesterday, which is beneficial in
combatting the heat. The average speed to this point is 12mph, now out
of the west-southwest. The peak gust occurred just before noon, with a
value of 28mph.

Visibility has been limited today due to thin fog and haze from all the
moisture in the air. Views have improved somewhat as the day has progressed,
from 20 to 40 miles.

The maximum temperature so far today is 89F, which is 7 degrees
above the normal high of 82F. The minimum temperature since midnight
is 76F, which is 12 degrees above the normal low of 64F.
