COOL, DRY AUGUST CONTINUES
BREEZY NORTHEAST WIND AND HIGH VISIBILITY TODAY

Today is likely to be the 11th straight day of below normal temperatures
here at Blue Hill, though none of those days have been below average by more
than six degrees.  This is the longest streak of consecutive below average
days since December 7-18 of last year.  Today, we have reached a high
temperature of 71F so far, which is equal to yesterday’s high and still
below the average of 78F.  August is running a little over two degrees below
normal so far.  Precipitation continues to run well below normal this month,
with our monthly deficit now greater than one and a half inches, and there is
no significant rainfall in sight.  Winds have continued to come in from the
NE today, and they have been a little stronger today, averaging about 10mph
with gusts over 20mph.  The visibility was a hazy 35 miles at our 7:00 AM
observation, but the haze lifted to provide us with excellent visibility for
the late morning and afternoon, up to 80 miles at times, a rare value for
August.
