BLUE HILL METEOROLOGICAL OBSERVATORY
MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS
ELEVATION 635 FEET, 10 MILES SSW OF BOSTON, MA
DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
SATURDAY, AUGUST 19, 2017
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
FOGGY START TO DAY WITH CLEARING SKIES AND HOTTER
TEMPERATURES IN AFTERNOON
A storm yesterday that was expected to bring rain to the area mainly
stayed south of Great Blue Hill, but 0.01 in. of rain was measured.
This morning, the observatory was in very dense fog with only 1/16
of a mile of visibility. By the afternoon, the fog lifted leaving us
with scattered cumulus and scattered cirrus clouds and 70 miles of
visibility. However, distant haze limited the visibility to just
20 miles in the NNW-E. Temperatures had increased over 80F to a
maximum of 86F around 1:00 P.M. EST from a minimum of 65F this
morning. Dew points have stayed in the upper 60s making for humid
conditions. Winds have calmed down significantly since yesterday,
when we had a peak gust of 33 MPH out of the S at 11:04 A.M.
