RAINY AND COLD TODAY WITH A LOW PASSING TO OUR SOUTH

Today has been a cool, wet, raw day on the summit.  A developing low pressure
to our south brought a steady light rain that began around 8:00 EDT this
morning.  The rain was steady for several hours but has decreased in intensity
towards noontime, with just light rain falling early this afternoon.  So
far, 0.28 inches of rain have been measured from this system.  Besides the
rain, the unseasonably cool temperatures have been the big story today.  Our
high for the day so far is 44F, which occurred just before the rain began.
Since then, the temperature has been stuck in the lower 40s, with 42F being
the reading at the 1:00 P.M. observation.  The average high for this time of
year is now up to 60F.

The wind has been light today, but the steady easterly component to the
direction has helped to provide the raw feeling of the air today, with the
air coming in off the cool ocean.  Some bright spots were observed to the
east early this morning, but no sunshine has been recorded today.
Visibility, which was at 35 miles this morning, fell under a mile at times
during the steadier rain and has remained at or below 20 miles into the early
afternoon.
