UNSEASONABLE HEAT RETURNS, LABOR DAY MARKS NEARLY
TWO WEEKS WITHOUT MEASURABLE PRECIPITATION
Yesterday’s maximum temperature of 87F, some 12 degrees
above the daily normal maximum temperature, continued a longer
term trend of above normal temperatures during the transition
from meteorological summer to autumn. A significant dry streak
has continued through this morning, with no measurable precipitation
recorded so far this month, and now two weeks since more than
a trace was measured on August 24th. Annual precipitation is
now 5.47 inches below normal with very little change in
the long term outlook. A small fire was reported in the Blue
Hill Reservation yesterday.
Heat was building throughout the morning today after an overnight
low of 63F. By the 1:00 PM EST observation temperatures had reached
91F, just one degree below today’s daily record maximum temperature
of 92F set back in 2007.
