DAILY DISCUSSION AND CLIMATE SUMMARY
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2015
ALL TIMES ARE IN EASTERN STANDARD TIME
MOISTURE ENTERS THE REGION AS WINDS SHIFT DURING
CLEAR OVERNIGHT- SUPERMOON AND ECLIPSE FULLY VISIBLE
-PATTERN TO SHIFT
It appears the long, dry and warm pattern that has characterized
most of September may be nearing its end. Overnight, winds shifted
from the recent preferred direction of NE to the S, as moisture
entered the region. By the 7:00 AM EST observation this morning
patchy fog was visible in the surrounding valleys, with clouds
at varying levels beginning to build from the S and W.
Overnight, extremely clear conditions allowed for fully unimpeded
views of the “Blood Moon” – with a moderate breeze from the S.
With no measurable precipitation in the past couple of weeks,
our monthly deficit has fallen further to 2.27 inches below normal,
and over 7 inches below normal for the year.
By today’s 1:00 PM EST observation stratocumulus, altocumulus and
varying forms of high cirrus were building in the skies overhead.
Hazy conditions had kept visibility to just 40 miles in all
directions, as winds have picked up from the SSW at 9 knots.
A maximum temperature of 80F had been recorded by that time.
