STUCK IN THE CLOUDS WITH LIGHT DRIZZLE AND FOG….
What a gloomy fall day it has been! Definitely not the kind of weather
we’d hope for on a Monday holiday, but it is a good one to sit inside
and enjoy a nice book. Since I arrived at the observatory this morning,
we have remained in the clouds. Light drizzle and fog has been the theme,
though a few very light rain showers have passed by. Accumulation since
7am has been minimal, with only an additional 0.01″ in the gauge. This
brings the storm total to 0.25″.
The temperature has changed little today. Our high temperature actually
occurred just after 9am this morning, when we briefly reached 51F. Since
then, a shift in the winds has caused the temperature to fall, and we are
currently holding in the upper 40s.
The wind has been rather light, even going calm for the 1pm observation.
Direction-wise, the flow was at first out of the north-northeast, and is
now from the northwest. Our average speed so far is 9mph, with a peak gust
of 28mph taking place a bit after 4:30am.
Visibility has remained extremely poor today, with views at best reaching
a measly 1/8 mile due to the dense fog.
The maximum temperature so far today is 51F, which is 11 degrees below
the normal high of 62F. The minimum temperature since midnight is 47F,
which is 2 degrees above the normal low of 45F.
